Caramel Flan Recipe
Ingredients:
For the caramel:
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons water
For the custard:
- 4 large eggs
- 1 can (400ml) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 can (400ml) evaporated milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
1. Make the Caramel:
In a saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring gently until the sugar dissolves. Increase the heat and let it simmer until the mixture turns golden brown (caramelized). Be careful not to burn it.
Once the caramel is ready, quickly pour it into the bottom of a baking dish or individual ramekins. Tilt the dish to spread the caramel evenly.
2. Prepare the Custard:
In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract until well combined.
3. Assemble:
Pour the custard mixture over the caramel in the baking dish. Tap the dish gently to remove any air bubbles.
4. Bake the Flan:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the baking dish in a larger pan and fill the larger pan with hot water to create a water bath. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
5. Cool and Serve:
Let the flan cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours. When ready to serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan to loosen it, and invert onto a serving plate. The caramel will form a beautiful sauce on top.
