Cheese Naan Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 cup warm milk (or water)
- 1/4 cup yogurt
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1/2 cup shredded cheese (mozzarella is great for melting)
- 2 tablespoons ghee or butter (for brushing)
Instructions:
1. Make the Dough:
In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Add the warm milk, yogurt, and melted butter. Mix until it forms a dough. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic. You can add a little more flour if it's too sticky. Cover the dough and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.
2. Prepare the Cheese Filling:
While the dough is resting, grate the cheese if it's not pre-shredded. You can use a mix of mozzarella and cheddar for a nice balance of stretch and flavor.
3. Shape the Naan:
Once the dough has rested, divide it into small balls. Roll out each ball into a small circle. Place a generous amount of shredded cheese in the center. Carefully fold the dough over the cheese and pinch the edges together to seal the cheese inside. Roll it out gently to flatten it, making sure the cheese stays inside.
4. Cook the Naan:
Heat a non-stick skillet or tawa on medium-high heat. Brush the surface with a little ghee or butter. Place the rolled naan in the hot skillet and cook until bubbles form on the surface, then flip it and cook the other side until golden brown. Brush the cooked naan with more ghee or butter.
5. Serve:
Serve the cheese naan hot with some yogurt, chutney, or your favorite curry.
